Summer Camps at Legacy 2017
We have fun and unique offerings this summer for all ages and abilities. Summer camp reservations can be made now. Reservations can be made with a $30 non-refundable deposit per camp. 3-6 year old Camp - $100
Imagine It! June 12-14 9:30–11:30 AM Imagine being a famous dancer. Imagine going on an African Safari. Imagine inventing a new machine. Imaginelife in a castle. This camp will include movement, music, drama and crafts to inspire the imagination. Camp will finish with a presentation for family members.
5-9 year old Camps - $140
Dance Through Art July 24-27 9:30–11:30 AM Each day will begin with an age-appropriate ballet or contemporary class. Following a snack break, we will then delve into the lives and works of various artists. Campers will create works of art inspired by these artists using paint, clay, pen & ink and collage.
7-11 year old Camp - $125
Exploring Spain Through Flamenco Dance July 17-19 10:00 AM–Noon Come join us as we learn how to clap rhythms and perform movement and footwork from the south of Spain. Each day we will learn a little about the history of flamenco, practice basic movements, do crafts (such as painting a fan from Spain) and have snacks that are inspired by the Spanish culinary tradition. On the last day parents are invited to come 15 minutes early to enjoy a special Spanish recipe that we will prepare and to watch a short demonstration of what their children have learned. Workshop is prepared and taught by Melinda Hedgecorth. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from UMKC and has spent the last 15 years training and performing in Sevilla, Spain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Grkar-AGU0Q *Students should wear comfortable clothing that they can move in and if possible a long skirt and shoes with a small heel.
Ages 11 and older One week - $75 Two weeks - $125
An Introduction to Flamenco Rhythms and Dance from Spain July 10 and 12, 12:30 – 2:00 PM July 17 and 19, 12:30 – 2:00 PM Flamenco is performed all over the world and is also part of the basic training of many ballet and modern dancers at schools such as the Pacific Northwest Ballet. In Flamenco footwork is mixed with beautiful upper body movement, performed with singing and guitar and deeply entrenched in rhythm. The first week we will work on movement in rhythms of 4 and the second week the more challenging rhythms of 12. We will practice basic technique with choreography and learn about how to perform with live musicians. Classes are taught by Melinda Hedgecorth.
